Will these tires fit my wheels?

I desperately need new tires on the front of my car. I was just wondering if 245 50 R16 tires will fit my stock salad shooters. What is the difference between 255, b/c that's what is suppossed to be on there? I should know, but it's easier to ask you all. Thanks, John

Those will fit fine - 255 is just wider.
255/50's would be wider AND taller - because the 50 means 50% of the tread width is the sidewall height.

That's what I was thinking - but I didn't want to be the retard who posted it if it was wrong.

yes, the oem size for the V8's is 245/50/16, but he has a v6, which came with 235/50/16, but the rims are the same sizes so any of the sizes up to 255 should fit

From what I understand, all GM wheels are 9". Salad Shooters are 16x9. Which would fit up to a 275. Unfortunately, the off set is a bit less than the SS rims. I was able to pic up a set of SS wheels from the board and they are 17x9. I've got 275/40R17s on there and they work fine. You are not limited to 245s for those wheels.

You could get some wheel spacers and new wheel studs then go with the 275s on your wheels. www.ground-control.com has good wheel spacers. Go to catalog, then Camaro.

The stock 16" wheels are all 16x8 55mm offset. WS6/SS wheels are 17x9 55mm offset. You can go wider than a 255 on the 16x8... the problem is that is about the largest size you will find in a "performance" tire. If you are interested in "competition" type tires, Hoosier makes a 275/45-16 in their "Sports Car DOT Radial", and they recommend a rim 8-10" wide.

WHOOPS! Good info Injuneer. Thanks for catching that. 16x8 is the correct size... not 16x9. 255s are the max street tire for the 16x8s. I'm not sure about the competition Hoosiers.

BFG makes several wider tires in their "Radial T/A" all-season line, and they are fine for 16x8" wide wheels. The problem is a) these are not "high performance tires", and b) they are too large in outside diameter for the 4th Gen, unless you want huge tires on the back and don't mind the resulting performance loss and the need to recalibrate the speedo....

265/50-16 26.5" diameter
275/65-16 30.1" diameter
295/50-16 27.6" diameter

All of these are too large compared to the stock 25.7" diameter used on the Z28.
