Will standard automotive paints hold up to engine...
...compartment temperatures? I have a few powdercoated parts in my engine compartment that I had coated for its hi-temp durability, but am not really happy w/ the outcome of the powder color I chose or the colors available in powder for that matter. Am deciding whether or not to have them re-powdercoated (perhaps find a place that will do a custom mix) or have painted w/ an automotive paint (dupont, ppg, other) that better matches what I am looking for. thnx. -Jeff

well since no one else seems to be helping you out i'll post up what i think. i think that regular automotive paint will be just fine as long as you clear coat the parts with a hard clear (i've used a clear called "Fast clear"). I've painted my calipers on my car with dupont paint and cleared them. I have yet to drive the car to see if they'll hold up but another painter ensured me they would as he painted his valve covers to match his car and had no problems. He told me that that's what they use on show car engine blocks and they're fine. Hope this helps. I'd say go for it.

Use a nice self etching primer before you lay down the paint and it will last forever. I am on year 5 with mine that way, and it looks great.
