Why do people use the "PINS" set-up on there hoods...??
I was wondering Why do people use the "PINS" set-up on there hoods, instead if using there stock set-up??
I have seen way to man POS's out there with this and i was just wondering..
I personally drive a LOW 12 second car and use stock latching..Is it all preferance..??

Well the reason they're "supossed" to be used is for fiberglass lift-off, or plastic hoods due to the extreme light weight, a typical 1 pt hold down would let the corners lift and curl up.
Although around here it has become a ricer trend to have either the stick-on fake ones, or the real ones on a metal hood
I have them on the hood of my Pro-Street car due to it being a lift-off hood, hinges won't work.

My dad and I have them on our racecar. Basically it is just easier to lift the hood off to work on it. Instead of having to cram yourself under the down side of the hood to work on something towards the back of the motor you just lift it off. Besides its a tube frame car so it has no mounts for latches and hinges... just weld some post on the chassis and your ready to go.

I'm sure it is a combination of reasons...
1) Some people buy the pin on hood simply because it is cheaper and they don't want to spend anymore than they have to.
2) Hard core racers might buy the hood because it is lighter. The pin on version of the hood on my 94Z is 6 pounds lighter.
3) If you have one of those $50k engines that requires some form or another of maintenance after every run, it is easier to work on if you can just set the hood on the roof out of your way.
4) And finally, some people just want to look cool with pins sticking outta the hood yet don't want to be such a poser as to put the stick on ones on there
