who here runs a 40 series(profile) on a 18" rim
who here runs a 40 series(profile) on a 18" rim
i just bought a set of zo6 wheels for my white trans am, im not sure what size tire i want to run. im thinking about a 35 series but i want to see pics of a 40 also. i have a feeling in my head that the 40 will be to much tire for a 18" wheel. all 4 of them are 18x9.5. thanks for the opinions
I could've sworn that I saw someone with 275/40R18 tires...I forget who they are though.
But if you want to compare tire sizes, then here you go.

40 series fit perfect on 18's ... pics in sig
They are still low profile, but they help to eliminate the ugly wheelgap (wheelgap is not solved by lowering the vehicle, wheelgap also occurs on either side of your wheelwell). 40 series also give you more rim protection for your wheels.
The only benefit of going with 35 series is to keep your speedo accurate.

i think it depends ono what width your going. if you do a 275 i think 40 would look fine but i went with 295/35/18 on the rear and i think it looks perfect. the side wall difference between the 2 is like .2 of an inch so you probably wont notice a difference from the look. if you go 295 dont go 40 series it is 1.2 inches taller overall then a 295/35/18 i dont think i could fit another 1.2 inches
I had 285/35/18's on my c-5 rims, when I got new tires I went with a 275/40/18(stock c-5 size), and the difference was quite a bit. The 35 series made the wheels look a lot bigger, but the ride sucked like crazy. Every little bump, crack, pebble, leaf I ran over felt like I was running over a giant pot hole, boulder, and tree limb
. The 40 series didn't make the rim look as huge, but the ride quality was much better, plus it wasn't an odd size, so the tires were affordable. I think a 295/35/18 would be nice, but it will be a lot more expensive.

I don't think it is quite that drastic nonetheless 40 series will provide a better ride. I went with 35s because I need my puny 18s to look as big as possible
I got some 245/40/18's
.
They only made the wheels I wanted in 8" - and beside that, I got them REAL cheap.
But the sidewall height looks fine.
With the wider wheel though, since you will be going with a wider tire, go with the 275/35/18's or even 285/35's...I think either would look fine.
