I have done this twice and learned from the first time I did it.
1. To remove needles use a regular kitchen fork, just put forks teeth underneath and pull off. this ensures you are not accidently pulling on the needle but instead the black casing holding the needle.
2. Second and most IMPORTANT. First remove all panels and screws until you can remove nothing else besides the needles. Start car and let run. Take a piece of paper and write down where all the needles are normally at at ideling temperature. espically gas. Now remove the needles. Dont remove them all like I did for some reason. Defiently leave the speed needle on. Then if you can temp then gas. The reason I say this is when you go to put the needles back on you will have the car running. Now for expample you take the gas needle off and you have half a tank of gas. Now when you put it on you try to line it up with the halftank mark, but the needle will not stay where you want it. You have to keep adjusting, you will see what I mean. I messed my gas up the first time and ran out of gas. I was mad. So take my advice and you will be fine.

I would do what 95Zdroptop said, I left my needles on and tried to slide the guage over them, well I got all of the needles through except one, the gas guage, which I ended up accidentally breaking. I learned the hardway. But what I did when taking the needles off (of the new guage I had to order) is use a fork, but I used two hands, one on the fork prongs and one on the lip, and pulled straight up, rather then put the fork through and 'pry' it off. It worked well for me, and I too wrote down where the needles were for reinstall, it's been about 6 months or so and no problems yet.
Thanks for the info, I think I'll leave the needles on (less trouble). mine for the Z28 should be in, in a couple of days cause I had to change my order (color change). I'm buying the gauge faces, gear letter piece (P R N D etc...), Heater control panel. Also I might change the bulbs while I'm in there to blue or hyper white or LED's. I heard it'll give the gauges and other lights an indiglo effect. Is this true? If it is, how do I order factory replacement colored bulbs.
i didnt do the gauges on my camaro but i did on my old dodge stealth...just take the screws and bolts off to get the pod out..take the glass off pluss needles off put gauges in..and it might take a while to get the needles to read correct again...mess around with it..have someone drive next to you at like 20mph to see if its right..thats what i did
