White Faced Gauge Install.

Let me start by saying "I did a search" and found nothing particularly helpful. I have a '96 and am about to install ebay reverse indiglow gauges. How do I get the dash apart and actually get to the guages? I see the screws for the panel under the steering column, but don't know how to get the rest off(wanna make sure), and for that matter I don't know which pieces I need to take off.

I installed those guages sometime last year...I can't remember exactly but i think you have to remove the panel under the steering wheel. There should be 4 screws and possibly a body clip that holds the thin plastic part that covers the bottom part of the dash (above the pedals) and hides the wires. After removing those screws that panel under the steering wheel will come off...all you have to do is unplug the clip from the back of the rear defroster switch. Then...i think you also have to remove the bezel that goes around the radio. You should now be able to see 2 screws on the driver side that were covered by the panel you just removed, take them out, and open the glove box to find one more on the left side. After taking them out the bezel should come out. Now you should see some bolts that hold the large gauge bezel in place, take those out...but there is one more under the top part of the dash (the part with the vent in the middel) The toughest part is now to get the top part of the dash off, or at least get under it so you can get to the screw (which is approximately in the center of the of where the two peices meet) The top dash peice is held on by body clips, becareful not to crack it...as i did when i was changing the white face gauges to the reverse indiglo ones , I just popped the few up in the center and around the one screw enough so i could get a socket wrench in there and take it out. I couldn't really see the screw because of the steering wheel and crap, so I just felt for it. Anyways, after getting that peice off it should be pretty easy. You will see the bolts that hold the clear plastic cover over the gauges...and the bolts that hold the actual gauge assembly to the dash. Just take the assembly out and then remove the cover and the black bezel that separates all the different gauges, and get the indiglo ones lined up. I used some scotch tape on the edges to keep them inplace. It pisses me off that they aren't exactly perfect...but I kinda expected that from the aftermarket ish i guess. After your sastified with everything put the assembly back together. I had to splice into some wires on the headlight switch to get them to turn on with everything else (just like the regular gauges), but i don't have my car here and i really don't remember what color wires i spliced into. I would suggest getting a Chilton's Manual. That's what i used to get through all this. All that above was just off the top of my head...but it's just about right. I have a '96 too. I hope this helped a little....and if not sorry for writting such a long-a$$ post.

Thanks man. I'm planning on getting around to it on Friday (I'm at school right now). I'm sure it will be plenty helpful as I really didn't have much of a clue as to what steps to take. All my other car had a small bezel to remove to get to cluster, obviously much easier than this will be.

I am going to be making a guide on how to take apart the dash in a 93-96 this weekend. I may have it done Friday night, but most likely it will be done some time Saturday. I have all of the pictures taken, I just need to do the write up.
