Angry WHEEL SPACERS don't you hate how the rims dip "into" the body.

I am slapping some 17x9.5" zr1's on my 94 z28. 275/40/zr17 is the tire size.

I know this will push the wheel out a little bit just bc it is a wider rim. But I want it to be flush with the outermost part of the wheel well. Has anyone done this? I have seen a couple camaros with it done and it looks great. Sure GM positioned the wheels there for a reason and I am sure it helps to keep small road debris from flying up and hitting the side of the door but I am willing to take the chance.

Anyone know a place that sells wheel spacers and longer bolts for a reasonable price????

I have the same set of tires/wheels, and moved up to 18x10.5" wheels last year.

The wheels are positioned so the tires fit up inside the fenders when the suspension is fully compressed. If you move the wheel out, you will need to roll the lip or install jounce spacers or risk cutting the tire on the fender lip. Just look at the width of the fender lip.

Hey, nice ride. Love the drop t-top z28's. About the wheels, I surely do not want to risk cutting those expensive 275/40/Z rated tires dude. Do the jounce spacers push the wheel out more or what??? Get them from slp online right? And my other option: "roll the lip" my dad is a body man at a local chevy dealership, I think he could do this. What does that mean/how do you do it?

When I had the 17" WS6 wheels on mine , I did run a 5/16" spacer on the back wheels for this exact same reason . Even that little nothing spacer made a huge difference . It looked really nice I thought . Tires was about flush wit the top of the wheel well .

Thanks.

Jounce spacers stop the axle (and the wheel/tire) from moving up into the fender. You can see my car needs that wheel travel, so I can't use those, or I would bottom out over every bump.

'roll the lip' means to actually bend the fender lip up out of the way of the tire. This can crack the paint on the inside (for rust to start), on the outside (need for repaint), and weaken the fender panel itself. Pass again.

Spacers require longer studs and add a potentially weak link to the suspension. No thanks.

It would appear to me that many people just don't check for clearance - they just hope they don't bottom out. Because they haven't bottomed out (yet), they say they don't have a clearance problem.
