What aftermarket SS Hoods look the closest to the real thing? I call tell a Suncoast, US Body and A&A from the real thing. Does the ASCD look like the real thing?

Well, my ASCD Ram Air hood is an exact duplicate of the original down to the same waves in the surface that I've seen on every factory Ram Air hood. In fact, I'm using original GM Ram Air grills in my hood and they fit perfectly.
The only way I can tell them apart is by looking at the underside of the hood. The original is smooth in the airbox cutout area, but you can see some of the fiberglass texture on the ASCD.

The fit was very good. I installed it with the help of a friend. I had to drill two holes for the hinge locator pins and do a little filing in the secondary latch hole and that was it other than making adjustments to the latch. When I took it to get painted, the body shop seemed impressed with the quality, and after four years, I have no compaints. It's held up very well, and even withstood a cigarette that someone decided to let burn out on my hood. It burned the paint, but the hood was fine.
I don't know how much it weighs though. I don't recall it being much lighter than the stock hood. ASCD should be able to tell you exactly how much the hood you're looking at weighs.

I met the guys who own ASCD here local to me at a big Car Swap Meet they come to every year. They told me that there SS Hoods are exact duplicates, as they purchase a real SS Hood to make the mold with. I bought my 98 SS Hood from them and the fit and finsh is great and uses the stock SS grille, just got it back yesterday from the paint shop ![](http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif)

I found out the stock hood weighs 44 pounds. I dont want to get another hood that isnt lighter. I called VFN, their 2 inch cowl induction hood is 26 pounds for the bolton. I just have to decide if I like that hood or not.
