wet sand

i recently had my car painted, and i've had it for about a week now and was wondering if it's necessary or if it'll help at all for me to wet sand over the clear coat. if i do, what grit sand paper do i use, and how many times should i go over it and how long should i wait before i do this? also, how long do i have to wait before i can wash or wax it? any input will help. thanks

Why would you want to do this?
Did the people who painted your car did a bad job??

No, it shouldn't be necessary, if it was necessary, it would have been part of the professional paintjob, before it was "complete" and is more common in show quality paintjobs.

It would be very important to have that done by a professional.

Yes, I agree.

Don't take this wrong but if you need to ask what grit to use then you don't want to be sanding on your own car I used to detail cars and have wet sanded finishes a few times. If it is something that is needed (orange peel in the clear) then I highly recommend you practice first on some junk yard parts

i understand what you guys are trying to tell me, but it wasn't the best quality paint job. i was low on money and just got a paint job. i'm guessing, that the paint that dried when it hit the air or dust got into the clear coat. i can feel that there is some little bumps on the clear coat that's why i was wondering if i needed to wet sand it

If you attempt this without some experience you will likely cost your self a few repainted panels.

Just outta curiosity, do any of you guys know what a good wetsand will (approx.) cost? I'm thinking of sprucing up my paint since it's getting fairly worn and the clear scratched, and I've already had it buffed which didn't last long. Any ballpark estimates would be appreciated.

ok..you want to wet sand you car... It's easy to do...but easy to screw up. I wet sanded mine... It's very time consuming but worth it Take about 2000 grit sandpaper.... and do a body panel @ a time.. tape off the edges of you panels to make sure you don't sand the edges. Bout a inch in space of tape around the edges should be fine. Sand in a straigh line, don't go round and round like your waxing it. As you sanding it...keep feeling it to make sure it's getting smooth, then when it's as smooth as you want it, wash all other the clear coat you sanded off... Then it comes time to buff it. there are 2 types of stuff you buff with...one to smooth it out more and then something out to polish it.... your local paint shop should know. But be careful when your buffing not to burn through the paint. But when your done it'll look awesome. Good luck, BTW everyone else that is afraid to do it... needs to leave ya alone...if you wanna try it yourself...GO for it!!!!!!!!!!! I'd rather do it myself and be proud of the work I do..rather than proud of the work someone else does for you! Remember if you didn't build it...It ain't yours!!!!!!!
