Want to switch my dash to Pontiac style

Anyone done this in a 94-96 style Camaro? I already have a guage cluster form a 96, and I can get my habds on a complete dash from a 97. Any help or install guides?

I did it. None of the GM wiring harnesses are the same as the pontiac ones. You will have to buy pontiac wiring harnesses and rewire it all to make it work. I sugest you buy the GM manuals also to know what wire goes where.

Its a real PITA but very cool when done. I have never seen anyone else do it. Pics in my sig.

you need a new Dash, A pillor plastics, Dash pad, console, Cluster, headlight switch for sure. Im not sure if you can use the GM A/C controlls i think you can. I removed all the A/C crap and airbags.

It would be a real PITA to put in all the A/C ducting. If you want A/C your going to need the Pontiac ducting also.

Its really just a big pain than it is a technical job. Your simply removing about 1 million screws holding in everything and putting it all back. The Dash bolts up fine everywhere but under the radio to the floor. This is not really a problem.

My dash is held on just by about 8 screws on top, the bolts holding the stearing column and the two main bolts on each side by the doors. It is srudy but I dont have anything under it to weigh it down.

The only thing I rewired was the cluster and headlight switch. The A/C would be a real pain as im not even sure what needs to go where because the wires are very different.

I have the pontiac A/C controls if you want them though.

I dont know if I would be able to help you as I am leaving for the Army in less than a month. The only thing I think you should do before you consider this swap is buying the manuals. It illustrates exactly the differences between the Camaro and Pontiac. I thought it was going to be close to the same but I was wrong. Go figure why they are so different.

What year guage cluster and what year dash did you use? I think I may tackle this next weekend. Any way you could scan the diagrams I need form those manuals?

I dont have a scanner I would reccomed you buy them anyways. With a project like this you will want them trust me. They are a very important tool. I used all 94 T/A stuff. I tried to make sure the cluster would not have the digital odometer and still fit the dash. The 94 uses LT1 year specific parts like the dash pad. A dash pad off a 98 T/A will not fit a 97 T/A dash.

This is a kinda hard project and I would not sudjest doing it if its your first time taking your car apart. Getting all the A/C stuff, headlights and guages all back together is kinda hard.

I only did this project because I knew from the start that the Airbags, radio, A/C and heat were all coming out. Getting all that stuff back in their will be very hard....doable but hard and not something id like to try.

some problems I know you will be looking at: defroster for a T/A is on the A/C switch and will have to be rewired. All A/C wiring is different and must be rewired. Healight switch is the same harnes and works fine but the fog light switch is completly different and must be rewired. Harness for guages is different and you must buy a pontiac harness, pull the wires out of the chevy harness and place the wires back in the T/A harness. (you could just buy the T/A guage harness with all wires in it and cut all 32 wires and splice them but this would be harder IMO)

There is a little trick to getting the wires out of the harness. You have to depress the spring lock on the end of the wire using a small rod of metal. I used a very small flat head screw driver. You could maybey use a small L wrench or something similer.
