Question Underhood cleaning..........

Well my car seems to have been undercoated from the first owner. There is massive overspray all over the engine compartment and i want to clean it. What are some tips for cleaning this mess. Its a sticky, rubbery type of substance and comes off if you use your nails but not when you just wipe it with a rag. Any help is appreciated because i hate the way my engine bay looks right now. Thanks guys.

That substance is probably 3m rubberized undercoating. It's to keep sound down in the cockpit. I don't know how to get it off. Maybe try scraping it off carefully and then use a little bit of gasoline/degreaser etc.... Hopefully that will help out a little bit.
