Trans Am -> Formula

I found someone locally who wants to trade me my LT1 T/A front bumper, rear bumper, sideskirts and hatch for his v6 bumpers and hatch. I wanted to save some weight and ever since I bought a formula that someone crashed into I always like the formula look better.

Anyone know if the side skirts will just come off without leaving any holes or anything like that? I know the rest of the stuff should just swap right over.

I am 99% sure there would be some holes left. I seriously doubt those side skirts are mounted with double-sided tape alone.

Lay up under you rocker and take a look at the hardware.

You'll save probably 10 ounces. Have you picked up the side skirts? The front bumpers aren't that different either. I picked up a TA and a Formula bumper at a junkyard once and I couldn't tell the difference.

The rear spoiler is the big difference.. the stock one supposedly weighs about 35 #'s and the side skirt weight is probably only 5-10 #'s.. that's still 40-45 #'s and I like the look better. When you are trying to pull weight off your car 40#'s is huge. A aftermarket k-member does not save close to that much weight and I need to get the front an rear bumper's painted anyway.

Anyone actually know if there are holes under the sideskirts instead of guessing?

the side skirts are held on under the car, and inside the wheel wells

Thanks.. So when they are removed you can't see any marks from them I assume? I would go take one off to see but my car is kind of far away (500 miles) right now.

I was actually thinking of seeing if I could just find the hatch and front and rear bumpers at a local junkyard for cheap and keep my stock TA parts, so then if I wanted to switch back later I could. It seems like the v6 firebird parts are not nearly as hard to find and are much cheaper than the TA stuff.

I also would really like to weigh the difference between the parts to see how much it really is.

The side skirts are maybe 4lbs for the both of them. A shop broke mine and they paid for a new one.
