Trans Am Dash Swap

Trans Am Dash Swap
This was one of the most PITA installs i've ever done on an Fbody. I'm glad its over with. The Donor car was a friends 93 TA that i now have the complete interior out of. I have new TA seat covers on the way now too. The only interior part in my car thats not from his is the 97+ console and my Bose which will be replaced with a TA one tom. The install and wiring was exactly the same as a 97+ dash swap. I used the same wiring diagram as the 97+ Camaro dash swap. Here are the pics.

Looks good. I remember pulling the dash of a front clip I had. No windshield and even then it was one of the biggest PITAs I've ever been associated with. Installing one in an actual car? Nice job.

Re: Trans Am Dash Swap
just be patient. Also make sure you remove the bracket that bolts to the floor behind the console first. i removed everything else and then noticed that bolt down there. I then had to try to hold up the dash while taking out the bolt. It was a bitch. I had the TA dash out in 1.5 hrs. Taking my time as it was my first dash removal and i didn't want to mess anything up. Removing the Camaro Dash was a bitch. Why are you removing yours?

Re: Trans Am Dash Swap
I need the HVAC unit outta the EngineBay, I'm grinding the paint off for fresh basecoat/clearcoat blk paint while the motor's out...The HVAC and Brake Booster Assy are preventing me from getting into the back 2 corners for paint removal and prep, but you have to pull th dash to get to them. Also I figure I'll put a 97+TransAm Dash Harness in so I can runt he digital odometer cluster...

It looks like it belongs there, but I couldn't do it to my dash either. I like the way it is set up, especially with the way it is driver oriented. I have an 8 year old little brother who likes to touch anything of mine that is expensive, especially electronic stuff like my radio.

I like the way mine is now, where the controls and radio face the driver. I'm driving my 92 Jeep right now, and it sucks having to reach off to the side in it. I have to look off the road to change the radio or heat. If I sit closer, than it cramps my legs. I can sit back at just the right spot in my car, and still comfortably reach the radio and heat.
