Looks pretty cool. Can't want to see the final result. Keep me posted to how it turns out.

Re: Work in Progress

Finally got it bolted in place, it sure took a lot of work to get it all to fit and there's still a lot of clean up work with wires and what not being all over the place, but I'll worrya bout that once I get the computer in there and all the wiring is done with that. It's not the best looking, but I think once the screen is in and it's working people won't notice the amateur bezel.

Re: Work in Progress

its cool what you are trying to do with the car pc, and i hope you get it working. Its way more than i could ever do. I'm not trying to rag on you but you have to much going on in your interior. Sometimes things are better left alone. You don't have to paint or put a decal over everything. Thats just my opinion. I'm not trying to start a flame war. Just my opinion. Good luck on the pc.

Hey it's cool, I knew from the moment I posted that it's cz28.com and the c stands for conservative, I was prepared for more negative feedback than what I've gotten. I like custom, leaving it plain and ordinary just doesn't work with me, but it's my car and that's what counts.

Exactly. The work you are doing is BADASS! You are the man for doing that. Now that I see that, I want a f'n computer in mine. DVD/CD/MP3 all in one place....great idea. I commend you on your work. I think it's lookin' sharp.

Re: Work in Progress

Thanks.

The few features that I haven't mentioned are mostly for fun, but I mean really when you think of it.. anything that you can do on a computer you can do on this -- since it really is a fully functioning computer. Want Halo2? Sure thing, load the software.. For me, I'm planning on putting a few console emulators on there and loading up a few fun games.

Re: Work in Progress

Where did you get this and how much does it cost? Does it have a serial interface?

Re: Work in Progress

The computer was purchased off of mp3car.com's Classifieds Forum, but you can literally use any computer to do this... Most people use Via Epia motherboards because they're mini-ITX (small), coupled with a video card, laptop hard drive (smaller in size and in theory can handle a little more vibration than a standard desktop hd), and some other goodies and you'd be good to go. The bezel was custom made, my first fiberglassing job. There's a serial cable in it that goes straight to the laptop hard drive, some people have done conversions to get more use out of it.. in my case I'm just using USB to power my secondary harddrive and CD/DVD rom.

Re: Work in Progress

Are you gonna get a cable to go from your diagnostics port on your car to your computer and get a program to control the settings on your pcm? that would be tight. i wish i could do the work with my car that you are. wow.

Re: Work in Progress

Well, the main problem is that my car is OBDI and not 2, so finding a good set of diagnostic tools for my car is hard... It's workable but my car is just a v6 and most seem like they're for v8's only. I've been going back and forth with the idea since this started

This board is conservative but i wouldn't say I am. I did install a complete Trans Am interior into my car. That would be a huge sin to many people on this board. I just think you have to many colors and to many things painted in my opinion. If you're happy with it though thats what matters.

Re: Work in Progress

I'm far from Conservative, and even I think that interior is high in carbohydrates.

If the vents and glove were black again, it would be much better. But, as you mentioned It's not my car.

I'm going to a carputer as well, did you use Linux on that? Where did you mount the GBS antenna?

Re: Work in Progress

Sorry Z95m6, that wasn't directed specifically at you, but at the board in general. Seems like 90% of the time if someone shows a custom car here, it starts a flame war.

The GPS antenna is probably going to be mounted under my dash pad, not sure yet. As for the OS, I'm using Windows 98.
