Torq Thrust Backspacing 17x8 Or 17x9.5
Torq Thrust Backspacing 17x8 Or 17x9.5
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF A 17X8 WITH BACKSPACING OF 4.75 OR 4 WOULD FIT A 4TH GENERATION CAMARO? I SEE THAT THE 17X9.5'S HAVE A BS OF 7.....THANKS FOR ANYONE'S HELP
The stock 8" wide wheels are 55mm offset, which corresponds to a 6.65" backspace. If you bought an 8" wide wheel with a 4" backspace, the wheel would be moved more than 2.6" toward the outside of the car, moving it quite a way outside the fender line.
IMHO you do NOT want to simply go from a 16x8" wheel to a 17x8" wheel, when you get the added benefits of a wider tire footprint and a more aggressive look when you opt for the more popular 17x9.5" wheels.

So you're saying that if you buy an 8" wide wheel it wheel stick way out of the fender well and of course looking retarded. I am thinking about 17 X 8's or 17 X 9.5's but do not know. The 17 X 9.5 won't rub will they?

I have run OZ MonteCarlo 17x9.5 (7-1/8"BS) and AFS/ZR1 replica 17x9.5 (7.3/8"1BS) with 275/40-17's with no problems. Remember, the factory 17x9 wheels for the WS6 and SS have a 7-1/8"BS with stock 275/40's..... so the wheel wells are made for that size tire.
