Tires
Your rim is 17x9. Just about all manufacturers allow a 275/40-17 to be used on a 9" rim. Some people have gone to 285/40-17 on a 9" wide rim. Technically, most manufacturers recommend a 9.5" rim for that 285. I seriously doubt that 1/2" makes all that much difference. Then there are people who put 315/35-17's on a 9" of 9.5" rim, and I think that is not too smart... but you will get a few people who tell you they did it, it looks great, traction is great, absolutley no adverse wear from putting an oversize tire on a too-narrow rim. But I don't agree with it.
So... going strictly by the manufacturer's recommendations... 275/40-17. Stretch it a little and 285/40-17. One thing to keep in mind, a 285 is 4/10th's of an inch larger in diameter and section width than a 275. But often, the tread width is hardly any different. I suspect the top of the line 275's in terms of wet and dry traction will outperform the bottom of the line 285's hands down.
