Tinting

Wanna get my rear window tinted and maybe my sides, but dont feel like getting hassled by the cops, so if i do get my sides tinted, it would probably be pretty light. ANYWAYS, if i get my rear tinted, they would only go up to the dot matrix correct? Cuz if they went onto it, it would bubble and stuff right? So if they do that, how and what can I use to paint the dot matrix area so its all black?

Re: Tinting

5% tint all teh way around, go to ure eye doctor and have him write you a note or something saying your eyes are sensitive to the sunlight

Re: Tinting

On mine he went over the dot matrix... I think most tinters do unless you ask them not to... I had him do it twice because there was a small crease in the tint at the bottom.. First time it looked good over it... Second time it didn't look as good... Mine isn't bubbling or peeling where it is, it's just stuck to the dots and not on the window itself around them so it looks like it's bubbling... I've wanted to cut the tint right at the dots and spray paint the window black like I've seen people do... But haven't gotten around to it.

Re: Tinting

mine looks good, they covered the dots both times I have had it done. No problems of it bubbling or peeling off

Re: Tinting

when i got 20% all the way around, the regular tint didn't stick that well to the dot matrix stuff. so i went back and the guy explained to me that its like a 50/50 chance of the regular tint sticking to it. what they did to mine to make it look good was they put a "slug" on it. its just like a straight up black piece of black vinyl and it made the part where the dot matrix was look a lot better.

I agree with the letter from an eye doctor... it works. Plenty of friends i know do it. Mine isnt really dark enough to get hassled.

Re: Tinting

5% tint is friggin dark! I have 20% in my rear and it is at the limit for me. Any darker and I wouldn't be able to see a thing at night. You may need to check Illinios law for your tint limit. In Indiana I know you can have as dark as you want on the back, but no darker than 35% on the sides.

Also, my tint on my back is tinted over the dots. It is unlikely if you get it tinted over the dots that it will stay perfectly forever. Mine eventually didn't stay and there is a lighter part of the tint over the dotted area. Every once in a while I go back there and smooth it back down. I would like to add though that unless you are really looking for it, you don't notice it not sealing well over the dots.

Re: Tinting

illinois law is no tint on the sides whatsoever, no windows next to the driver's head can be tinted... SO GHEY!

Re: Tinting

Yeah, Illinois tint laws suck. However, if I went real light like 50% or something, i dont think i would be hassled, but who knows. My main goal is for the rear window to look good.

Re: Tinting

I live in good ol' Chambana and have yet to be stopped in this town for tint reasons! The smaller surrounding towns are a completely different story however. I have 5% on the back and 18% on the sides...and the 12" 5% on the top of the front windshield!
In terms of the dot matrix, I have a black piece of vinyl covering up the dots from the outside. You can't even tell its there really. I also tinted my previous back hatch...talk about a pain in the ***...and just kept workin the tint over the dot matrix when it was parked in the sun. It wasn't perfect but it was barely noticable.

Re: Tinting

like i said, i live close to chicago and dont get bothered at all. I dont know what my %'s are, but id say it is a medium darkness all the way around. I didnt want a completely black back window... had the tints for 3 years now and no purpleing affect at all yet.
