Taillight Conversion Mod

Hmm, I have a 99 3.8L Camaro and swapped the newer tail lights out for the older ones (the difference it makes is oustanding, I love them...looks a lot cleaner, and gets rid of the amber). I just swapped everything directly with no problems. I had to use a hack saw and cut out part of the tail light frame so that the tabs on the light sockets would slide in, then lock into place. Other than that...all went well. After reading your post, you made me worry, so I just went out and checked everything. All works well with all possible combinations (brake lights, headlights on, turn signals, etc etc).

 

Does your turn signal work off 1 bulb and the brake off another? Also does the turn singal bulb also work as a tail light, so that the whole house lights up? That's what I did with this is made it so that for the taillights all bulb light, then convert to the single bulb Brake/Turn signal so that they weren't seperate.

 

I'm not sure exactly which bulb is which, my memory sucks and I'm too lazy to go check. Regardless, they're indepenant of each other - they don't work together at all.

 

This is what the mod does. Makes them work together like the early style does. Then you have 2 or 3 (if you add another base) bulbs for the Brake/turn signal.

 

Oh, okay. I didn't know the earlier styles flashed together. Makes sense now...mine flash the same as before, just with the older housing.

 

I would like the Newer tail lights to touch up my 98+ front end, so is anyone willing to trade me their newer ones for my older ones?
