tail light conversion

who knows how to put 97+ lights on a pre 97 car, without buying the wireing harness from chevy, i went to GM yesterday to get some other stuf they told me $400 somthing bucks for the wireharnes. i KNOW it is do-able without buying the harness, i have the wire runnign from the fromt to the back, not sure witch wire to take off of tho, or to splice into it or to cut it totally off and run it streight to the back. HOW DO YOU MAKE IT WORK WITHOUT BUYIN THE HARNESS FROM GM?

i know i know, ive read that but that consists of buying the new haness, its $400. and i now there is a way to do it without that. you have to run a wire from the front of the car to the tails, but i dont know hwo exactly to do it...?
