stipping the paint on my wheels

stipping the paint on my wheels

Has any body every stipped the paint off there wheels and cleaned them up so they shined, the paint is messed up on mine thats y i might try it. What can i use to do this , and will it work on the painted rims.

You can strip them with some stuff called "Aircraft Remover" available at Wal-Mart back in the automotive paints section. It's a blue can with white writing. I can give you some tips if you decide to follow through.

Any aluminum can be polished up to be made shiney - its just a matter of how much effort you are willing to put into it. I have never seen it done on Salad Shooter's (I suppose that's what wheels you are talking about) - but I am sure it's been done. I have thought about it myself a few times - but I already have aftermarket wheels that I like, so I figure why try now?

I am going to try this out this week or weekend, I have done so stuff like this before and put a good bit of time in them, any thing that i should do or any tip to help me out so they look good would really help.

When stripping the wheels - number one - use some non-porous gloves!! That stipper burns. Secondly, let it sit for a while. The stuff will eat everything off the longer it sits - in NON-direct sunlight, but not indoors - an ambient temperature is best.

For the polishing - I recommend you cruise over to Eastwoodco.com and check out their polishing stuff - they also have a how to page. That should get you started.
