Steering Wheel Mod

One thing that I always disliked about 4th gen F-bodies is the steering wheel. Has anyone swapped their stock one with a nice custom one. I seen pics of a few 4th gens with this mod. I wondering how hard of a mod this would be?

My Momo wheel was my first mod. Not too hard to do, you need a steering wheel puller and in my case I had to clearance the inside of the steering column cover for the Momo adapter. Also you will probably want to turn off the airbag light.

I s clearance an issue with all wheels and adaptors, or just the momos.

The Grant wheels can be installed in the 4th Gens using the Grant 88/89 Camaro kit. The lower edge of the cover in the kit for the end of the steering column will rub slightly on the column, and needs to be sanded for clearance. The cover is also slightly smaller in diameter than the steering column, so you need to make sure the end of the steering column housing is painted.

I would guess just the Momo. Mine was a little bit big in diameter so it would bind up against the steering column cover. I took a little bit of material off the inside of the cover with an air grinder and that fixed it. Easy to do. You could use a Dremel if you don't have air.

The worst on the stock wheel is the location of the horns

I changed it over with the grant kit 3196 on my 94 Z28. Adapter kit for the 3rd gen cars. U will have to space out the black adapter piece itself from the peice that slips over the splines on the column with washers to make room for it hittin the steering column. Not to hard, but VERY AGGREVATING for me. i took out the airbag wire out the column and all. that would be up to you
