I have a column from a '95 Z in my '48 Chevy street rod. I want to put an aftermarket steering wheel on and the sellers (flaming river and grant) I've talked to don't want to help because the donor car was airbag-equipped. Does anyone know if the center shaft with the splines are the same as a pre-1990 column? I may just order one and see if it fits but hoping to avoid the hassle if it doesn't.
I figured the splined shaft was probably the same. I measured the column in my '39 street rod and the circumference at the top was the same as my Z column. I'll call grant and tell them I want the install kit for an 88 Camaro. As always, thanks for the help. BTW, here is the cowl painted on my 48 Z28. Rest will be painted soon.
Yes, the Grant 3196 steering wheel installation kit is designed to fit a 1988 Camaro
. This kit is compatible with a range of GM vehicles from 1969 to 1994, including the 1988 Camaro, and includes the necessary die-cast hub and hardware for installation.
Vehicle compatibility: The Grant 3196 kit is explicitly listed as fitting the 1969-1994 Chevrolet Camaro.
Kit contents: The kit includes the die-cast hub, hardware, and trim pieces needed to connect an aftermarket steering wheel to the Camaro's steering column.
Important note: This kit is for vehicles without an airbag or for those where the airbag is being replaced with a non-airbag steering wheel. If your 1988 Camaro has an airbag, you will need to take extra steps to safely remove the original airbag before installation, according to the instructions in the video linked,
