Static tint rolls
Static tint rolls
I need to tint my window but don't want to pay 200 for a professional tint. Any opinions for those of you who have done it? How did you put it on did you use adheasive or just soapy water and how long does it last? Also how did you do the massive back window?
Re: Static tint rolls
One side has water activated adhesive, use soapy water. Make a template or cut to fit dry. Then wet down the window and tint, keep it wet so you can move it around. Don't take it all the way to the edge of the window, leave 1/8" to 1/4" from the edge or cut back with a razor. It helps if you keep the lower edge under the weather strip so it wont catch when you roll the window down, (remove the inner door panels). Once in place roll or squeegee out the excess water from under the tint. Use a heat gun for the curved area's. I consider the back window to be very difficult. Usually takes several smaller pieces.
I personally found this to be a real pain, and will gladly pay someone to do it.

Re: Static tint rolls
Static tint is alot thicker than regular tint. I doubt it would work for applications such as windows that roll down. The back window would probably be fine with the static tint. Although, to be honest, your best bet is to fork out the $200 to get it professionally done. I got mine done for $150and it was lifetime tint. I'm sure with a little shopping around, you can find someone to do it for less than $200.
Re: Static tint rolls
pay someone to do it. im gonna be paying 300 for removing my current mirror tint and putting on some black limo all around. IMO its the best money you can spend on a car and have someone else do it. its such a PITA and usually never comes out how youd like. good luck if you do try it tho.
Re: Static tint rolls
Definately have it professionally done. A good window tint shop should be able to do it in one piece if they know what they are doing. A good friend of mine does tinting and he says there is a trick to them, but if you can't do it you aren't a professional.
