Ss Owner Question

Could someone tell me, what, if anything goes between the two pedestals on an SS spoiler and where they meet the hatch? I have an OEM SS spoiler and it looks like there are drain holes (I guess) in the base of the pedestals. Some people say to put double sided tape on them. But if they are drain holes, wouldn't the tape block the holes? I am trying to find out what GM originally used on the spoiler.

Thanks

There were two kinds of SS spoilers, up to 97 and 98 on up. I will assume you mean 98 on up, because you are referring to the "pedestals".

SLP used a neoprene gasket to cushion the pedestal on the deck lid. You can get these from a Chevrolet dealer or call SLP and get a couple from them. I do not know what they cost.

I have the 98-02 spoiler. I just talked someone at SLP, GMpartsdirect.com, GMrestorationparts.com and my local dealer. They all said they cannot find a listing for those gaskets. Does someone have a part number or an alternative?

Thanks

No clue. I'd try a different delaership. I am kinda surprised SLP couldn't help.

Maybe it is because you are calling it a "gasket"? Try calling it the base rubber or something Some of the dealers are kinda limited in their thinking and that might help them.

I have a print out of the parts break down for the spoiler (from my dealer) and it is not showing anything there. I do not believe that these break downs are always accurate, so if anyone has a part number or somewhere else I can look, please let me know. If I can't find an original part, what if I were to use double sided tape?

You're making this harder for yourself than it has to be. Get some double sided tape and slap it under there. Works just as good. I went the extra step and painted my tape with touch up paint and then putting it on, just incase any tape showed up on the outside.

not exactly on topic...but is the 98+ ss spoiler taller than the 96-97? just looking at it i would say it is...but it may be the post things that make it look taller...i've been wondering for a while....
