SS Hood intake question

SS Hood intake question
Hi .. I'm new to this board. I have a 1998 Z28 and tonight just got my SS style hood put on and new rear wing. My question is, where or what do I use to be a screen on the intake because right now it's wide open and goes through the tunnels and directly to the airbox. All my friends have TA's so I can't find an SS ram air to see what they use. I also wasn't having much luck doing searches because maybe it's not called an SS hood screen. Any help or name clarification would be great as the hood is now on but I stuffed a piece of foam in there that we used when we painted it so that it doesn't get crap in there until I know for sure what to do. I can't believe the hood didn't come with a screen.

Re: SS Hood intake question
A merchant on ebaymotors was selling the screen for $45. Contact American Sports Car Designs and see if they are still selling them. It didn't look like they were having any luck in the auctions.

Re: SS Hood intake question
You should have a filter between the inlet and the engine. So why do you need a screen. I specifically took mine off. Acually I cut out the mesh and left the nice black border.

Re: SS Hood intake question
At first I was wondering if I could do that or not. I do have the Cold Air Intake filter before the engine but I wasn't sure if it should be left open or not. I went to the dealer, $92 for one, no thanks. I'd rather fab up an aluminum plate to dress it up with holes in it before spending that kind of money for a silly screen.

Can you elaborate a little? I'm not opposed to doing a home made screen. We have an excellent hardware store nearby. I just need some ideas on how to attach it once the hole is cut.
Also would like to know of a few more places selling the custom ones....
I hope pwirch doesn't mind using the thread. Perhaps beneficial all around.
thanks

Re: SS Hood intake question
Not at all .. in fact, I already have the hole cut out and I'll take some pics of what that looks like. There is enough on either side to mount a screen to. I have some 1/8" aluminum plate in the garage so I'm going to make a template, cut it out of aluminum, drill a bunch of 1/2" holes in it for the air to pass through and then use two aluminum rivets to attach it to the opening. I'll post some pics when I do it and see how well it works out.

Here's an example: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...tegoryId=29501
Some places also have edging in plastic or metal. Can be attached several ways, bonded(glue), or make small brackets. Only limited by your imagination.

Re: SS Hood intake question
I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. I'm trying to make a screen that covers the intake on the aftermarket SS hood for the ram air. That little 8" x 2" piece was $92 at the dealer and $40+ online at places.
