Sneak peek

It's not 100% perfect, but for being my first try at it, I'm really happy how it looks.

Re: Sneak peek

haha well it's carbon fiber twill, I actually purchased all materials off ebay... carbon fiber twill 50" by 48" and then also a gallon of clear laminating resin (w/ hardener). You take the piece you want to cover, sand it down to scuff it up, spray some spray adhesive onto the piece, let the adhesive get tacky, lay the carbon fiber onto the piece (giving a good 2-3 inches extra on each side, so you can grip it and wrap it and what not), let the glue dry a little, make up some resin, put the resin on so the resin soaks through the carbon fiber and into the plastic... let the first layer dry, then do another layer, let dry, another layer, wet sand (I purchased 1000, 1500, and 2000) progressively from 1000 grit to about 2000 grit, and then paint with clear coat automotive paint. I'm on the final layer of the resin stage, and then I have to sand and install.

Here's some more pics:

Re: Sneak peek

haha yeah I figured some people wouldn't like it all that much, but hey y'all have a choice: either a painted console lid with elbow dents in it and paint rubbing off, or carbon fiber... y'all would rather see the carbon fiber right!
