Wow, I like that 6 speed shifter. Mustang threads are
12mm x 1.75 though, so it wont work. I wonder if its possible tp tap the threads for the correct size or get an adapter or insert for it to make it work?

Re: Shifter *****?

Are you certain it won't work? Someone earlier posted a reply saying that it would work. Does anyone know for certain?

Re: Shifter *****?

I emailed the company and they said there isn't enough material to drill it out unfortunately

Why is it so hard to find a leather shifter with the 6 speed pattern?

Would a Corvette shifter **** work?

Doubtful, they use the ZF instead of the T56.
If you see one you really like you could probably adapt it provided it's wide enough; use some helicoil? if it's not metal to make sure it doesn't strip.
I use an MBA **** with no engraving and I really like it, it'll last forever- if you park in sunlight it can get really hot though, I usually kept a sock over it in the summer so I wouldn't burn my hand when I got in. Can be kind of cold in the winter too... but I'm happy since I know it won't break- the stocker ended up stripping out after I put a B&M shifter in.

Guys, You have to think outside the box. If you cant modify the shift ball to fit the shifter. Modify the shifter to fit the ball. It should be possible to retap the shifter itself with a tool and die set. If your going to use a short shifter you may be able to get one of the companys to mod it for you......jt

Re: Shifter *****?

Well, I like the 6 speed shifter so i ordered one. I'll let you all know for sure how it works out. I have a Pro-5.0 shifter so might just pick up a $20 short stick that I can modify the threads on. Or better yet take the longer Pro 5.0 shifter and just shorten it and tap it for the stang thread pattern.............jt

Re: Shifter *****?

Let me know how it turns out, and make sure to include some pics! That shifter will look original, and it looks like it has a good feel to it as well.

Re: Shifter *****?

OK, I got the shift ball in yesterday. It is a really nice piece and fits your hand well. I didnt take pics during the mods but heres what I basicly did. I have a Pro 5.0 shifter so it may be different on other shift handles.

1. I cut off the threads of the Pro 5.0 handle.
2. The F-Body shifter is much larger than the mustang so you have to make the diameter smaller. I chose an easy but crude way to do it and used my bench grinder to make it smaller. Then used 100 Grit sand paper to smoothe it out and gradually make it small enough to get the tap on it.(Also used a die grinder to clean it up)
3. I used my Craftsman Tool and die Kit. The tap I used is 12mmx1.75. The camaro is 16mm just to get an idea on the size differnce. You have to be careful to get the Tap straight when you start it out or you gouge the threads you are making. The Pro 5.0 handle tapped pretty easy and it only took about 30 minutes from start to finish.

I dont have a picture of it in my car yet, its a 92 RS with Ls1/T56 combo. The handle looks good in there along with my Grant Signature Billet wheel.

Re: Shifter *****?

I got this like 2 or 3 years ago for my LT1, it's now in my LS1. I looks great !! Highly polished. You can just get the ball without the kit. When I got this kit, it was only like $30 at the time.

WOW! That does look good! Is that just a completely round polished ****? Or does it have the 1-6 and R engraved on it as well? If it does have the engraving, consider me SOLD! If not, does anyone know where I could get the engraving of the 1-6 and R done? Also, does it fit the threads fine? Or do you have to install the stick as well?
