Shift boot with the A4

I was wondering if anybody has done this. My car is basically stock, but I did put a Trans Am T style shift **** it. I was wanting to keep the console stock, with the gear indicator still next to the shifter. I was wanting something that would look like a C5 shifter does, like this one in the pic

Also, my car is a 99 with the medium grey(graphite) interior. I was hoping to use a stock M6 boot, and trim it to fit and tuck under the console. Hopefully the ring that holds the boot onto the shaft will work with the auto shifter too.

something else I thought of is that they did this with the Trans Am GTA from 87-92 and it looked real nice. Kinda stupid that they didn't keep doing the boot thing when they introduced the 4th gens.

Re: Shift boot with the A4

Yeah the boot is good looking. I've got one on my z but don't have any pictures. Got it on ebay along with a different shift ****. The guy just made it out of a thin piece of leather. It looked good, but didn't want to stay in place. I would hav tried it with a manual boot, but all the little pieces of plastic (the ones that move the gear selector) make it hard to do. The biggest problem was having enough slack in the boot to be able to shift it through all the gears. It would get tight towards either end, and if I loosened it up it looked wrong when it was in gear.

A friend of mine used a C5 boot. Here is a link to his site and it shows a pic of it. http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/363478/2

I got mine from a 1996 (I believe that's the correct year!) Impala. Any year in the late 90's range should work. Do a search on ebay or go to your friendly local junk yard. I have pics, just pm me if interested.

Well, the pics are taken but the self-serve unit at target was out of commission so I will take them to another place in the morning. Hope to send them after I get to work.
Thanks!

Re: Shift boot with the A4

Looks good. If anyone wants one i have a black boot off a 93-96 6 speed i would get rid of. It would work great for this.
