shaved antenna?
shaved antenna?
I was wanting to shave my antenna off my 97z, i was wondering how much work it would be and were would it be relocated at.
Has anybody done this?
Does anybody have any pics of a shaved antenna on a f-body?

not a cake job
It's a cool idea but if your gonna do it correctly you will have to repaint the complete panel where the hole is. It's also cool to have shaved door handles too, really gets peoples attention when you walk up to your car and yell "what the Hell!!!...... someone sole my door handles"
but once again I wouldn't recommend doing it unless your getting the whole car repainted.

Do it, car looks cleaner without the antenna. I have mine shaved ...pics in sig. I didn't do the shaving but I watched the guy do it and he welded a metal piece the size of the whole on the car then shave it smooth.
i have my antenna shaved. i installed an antenna booster and placed it in my glove box. It actually gets better reception now than when it had the antenna. lol i love how it looks. not many people notice it but when you mention it their like WOW THAT LOOKS GOOD. i have also shaved off all of my door moldings badges bird on nose and the center section for the back tailights on my car is painted body color w/ no bird on it. and i did the clear tailight mod to my firebird lenses. looks awesome. i also get lots of compliments for having such a clean Trans AM.
I shaved mine. I fiberglassed the hole and then filled it smooth and resprayed the quarter. For the antenna, I took the stocker, drilled out the rivets fromt he mount at the bottom and laid it under that carpet under the flip cover in the hatch. Works fine.
Here's my pet peeve about my 02 firehawk. The power antenna comes up even for CD's.
I don't even listen to the radio, too many commercials and yapping for me. I guess GM was too cheap to accomidate this option.

The only thing I'm worried about is, I'm not sure if thats a constant power, or a pulse to a built in relay or some sort. I haven't looked into the workings of one yet. If its a pluse, I'll just wire up my own with a relay and switch instead. *Shrugs* I'll figure it out as I go, I'll keep ya posted.

Ok
Answered my own question. I look looked through my '97 service manual. (Best $50 I ever spent) You turn everything on and you just pick up a relay which turns on a motor with 2 limit switches on it. So, a switch should do the job just fine
I'll let you guys know when its done.

I just shaved mine out when I repainted the car...most people dont notice but I think it gives the rear a real clean look.
definatly worth the hassel if your repainting. I dont think I would have done it otherwise?
