Shave antenna?

I have to repaint my 1/4 panel so i ahve all the paint stripped off, do you think i should shave my antenna or no? I hate having a long antenna but then i think that deleting it may be a problem. So, what do you recommend? I use a shorty antenna right now.

Re: Shave antenna?

if you like to use it then i wouldnt shave it.. but i think someoen mentioned to me that theres a kit to let you do like the old cars and run ur antenna through the window (sorta like rear defrost) i got rid of my antenna while i was paintin the car.. i like it a lot better, plus no more washing around the stupid thing and missing the back corner right behind it -_-

Re: Shave antenna?

If you have a cassette player in your car, buy an ipod and an ipod to tape converter, and ditch the antenna completely. If you have a CD player though, either get a lot of CDs or don't get rid of it.

You could also try to find out how Chevy made an internal antenna for the 2005 Corvette. I believe the rear bumper of the car serves as the antenna or something like that. Maybe you could either do that or tuck the antenna into the cargo space of the trunk.

Easy shave-it is steel, unlike the doors, nose, bumper, etc that I shaved on mine

DO IT lol
You can put your antenna in the trunk where the spare tire goes it should still work

Do it, I did and love it. You can buy a stealth antenna at any car audio shop for like $50 and mount it under your passenger side dash.
Not that it matters, but you won't get AM then.

I don't have welding equipment so i need to ask around to see if i can get a friend to help me weld a piece of metal in there. If i can't get ahold of anyone, is there any other way to get it plugged or is welding a piece of metal there the only way to go?

Re: Shave antenna?

You need to weld it in, then grind, and bondo, primer, paint.

Re: Shave antenna?

To shave mine I used a gromet off an Oldsmobile Aurora. I purchased a universal antenna, with a black mast, from RK sport. The gromet is a little loose so I used silicone on the underside of the fender, it does not show so I used a bunch. I had to drill two small holes about an 1/8" deep 180 degress across from each other in the nut. I then took a hex nut and drilled coresponsing holes in it and gluded in some wire. I used this tool to tighten the nut on the antenna.

Huh?

You replaced the antenna with another one, yet shaved it?
You lost me, but I sure would like more information!

Re: Shave antenna?

just get an electric one, or use a dremel and cut the antenna in half.

Re: Shave antenna?

When I said shave I mean flush with the body. I consider shaved to make flush not necessarily remove.
