Scratch on Tail lights
grab some 2000 (not 200 grit) sandpaper and get some fine cut 3M rubbing compound. Basically wet sand them. I did it to mine since my sisters fiance dropped batt. acid on them. Worked fine, they came out better than before.
wet sanding, color sanding, whatever is basically taking a very fine sandpaper and, well, just sanding your paint or int his case tailights. How do you do it?: get some 1500 grit and 2000 grit sandpaper, that fine cut compound i referred to earlier, a bucket of water, and some time of course. Let the sandpaper soak for about 10 mins. in the bucket of water. Wet the surface you will be sanding, this would be your taillights, and sand in one direction only. Keep the suface wet, too. If you are afraid of sanding your paint on accident, then i reccomend taping the paint off around the lights. sand w/ the 1500 and see how much of the scratch is removed. Once it is pretty much gone go to the 2000 for a while then use the fine cut compound, and again only use in one diretion. Dont be scared if the lights turn really white or almost opaque after sanding, the compound will take it out.
You can also remove both tail lights from the car, and tape over the holes for the lights to keep the water out . I have used the color sanding technique followed by Mequiars Plastx Plastic Cleaner and then Plastic Polish #10. Really great results, plus you can replace all the bulbs at once when the lenses are out!

When I wet sanded my middle panel between the tailights (to remove the faded red Firebird logo), the whole thing was scratched up. Then I used rubbing compound, and it looked shinier than what is was when I started!
