Restoring oxidized aluminum?

I had a dumb moment and sprayed my engine with Purple Power to clean it, not thinking of what it will do to the polished aluminum and now have a whitish coating on my engine. What is the best way to restore everythingm fine steel wool and polish?

I work at a bodyshop and occasionally do detail work and when I wash the cars, I use a very powerful degreaser similar to purple power. It is so strong you have to be very careful of the mist, and not get it on your hands. I was surprised that I never had a problem with any wheels I sprayed it on, painted wheels and others on some expensive cars.

One day I washed my car and used the same degreaser and it left behind stains in my aluminum Eagle wheels. I was very surprised. It got the grease out really well though. I just used compound and it polished out. Some areas may need 1500 - 2000 grit sandpaper, then polish. It's much faster if you have a small polisher that can be worked around small areas.
