Question replacing automatic shift ****

I have a '93 A4 Camaro, and I want to replace the shift **** on it with one out of a '95 (or similar) Pontiac Bonneville. How could I find out if they're compatible?

Does it look like a firebird one? If so they are compatible. I dont know of any exact way to tell. Im assuming all GM shift ***** should have the same "fit".

The one I want isn't like the Firebird one, but I have seen pictures of Bonnevilles from the same year with shift ***** identical to the ones that are in Firebirds.
Did this make any sense?

check the diameter of the shifter. then pull out the huge staple in the **** and replace with a new one. I replaced mine with one from a grand prix. swapped right over

So I just take off the top part? No rewiring or anything of that kind is necessary?

the only part you need to mess with is the leather part, not the metal part. Unless you wanted a shorter shifter.

Do you have the shifter around that you're wanting to swap out? It'd be easy to see if it'll fit or not. Simply remove the metal clip on the front of the stock shifter. Use something sharp to get under it if needed and simply pull out. Then pull the stock **** off and see if the new one will fit over the shaft. Make sure its seated all the way down and try depressing the button to make sure it'll change gears. I'm not sure how the Bonneville's **** is attached to the shifter though? If it too is held on with a clip then check to make sure that the clip that came out of the stock **** will fit... if not you may need to fabricate a way to make it stay

Hopefully I didn't confuse ya too much
