Removing Sticker Residue

I bought an LT1 Firebird this past weekend. I am cleaning the car up and have removed some stickers that the previous owner had on the car. Unforunately, each sticker left a gooey residue when I took them off. Since these stickers were applied to painted surfaces, I need to be careful about the cleaner that I use to remove the residue so that I don't damage the paint... Last evening, I tried to use a claybar to remove this residue and it didn't really work.

Any ideas or hints here?

Do what the German's did in world war 2. GAS the enemy, put a little gasoline on a soft 100% cotten towel and give them a little wipe. That or try goo-gone from your favorite automotive store.

We remove decals at my shop all the time using a decal eraser wheel. You can get them at any painter supply shop. Its the safest way to do it. The eraser wheel breaks down as it heats up and makes it virtually impossible to damage the paint.
They run 15-30 dollars typically.

if you use goo gone id get the Automotive specific kind. It says its safe for automotive finishes

good luck

another vote here for goo-gone. The cheapest way to remove sticker residue is probably nail polish remover. You might want to try this on the windows. DO NOT use it on the body of your car, it will ruin the clearcoat if enough is used.

Ditto.

It takes ANYTHING off a car, just be sure to wash the car immediately after using it.

Just to follow up - I got all of the residue off the car. I went to Advance Auto Parts looking for Goo-gone and they didn't have any. However, they had a product called "Label & Sticker Remover" made bny an outfit called Dominion Sure Seal LTD. The spray can suggested that you try a hidden spot first - I didn't. Howeverm they did also suggest that you let it soak for 5-10 minutes. I didn't do that either. I let it soak a few seconds, wiped with a towel, reapplied, waited a few seconds, wiped with a towel and it slowly softened the adhesive to almost a snot-like consistency. I then wiped it clean. No paint damage and no residue.

Thanks for all of the input. I was going to try WD-40 if this didn't work...
