Question Removing side molding and Trans Am badges

I want to remove the side molding and Trans Am badges from my '95TA. My intent is to remove the pieces w/out damaging the badges, molding or the car. I do not want to have to repaint the car. Any suggestions of a solvent or tools would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve.

Will the goo gone hurt the paint at all?

Thanks,

I've used it on my paint before... just don't use it in direct sunlight and make sure the surface is cool to the touch.

Also, do not SCRUB the glue off... gently rub it on the adhesive/glue and let the chemicals remove the glue. If you scrub it then, yes, you can damage the paint.

If I had to do it over again, I would not do it.
Mine did not come off perfectly, even with fishing line, a heat gun, and about 10 hours of labor trying to get the last bits off.
It's not hugely noticable, but if you're a perfectionist, you should know there is a risk to it.

I agree. Once I get the lines in the body from the 10 years of having the trim there repainted, as well as the rust spot I found behind a piece of trim it will look good.

I started removing mine last night. Just used my fingers and a can of "Bumper Sticker Remover" you can pick it up at any autozone. It sucks, Goof Off would have probably worked a lot better. But it got the job done... 3 hours later.

I pulled my side molding, front bird, and "name tags" off, the only one I had any trouble with was the drivers side Trans Am. the rest came of flawlessly and left no marks. I just used my fingers for the job and the left over tape I rubbed off with my fingers (I don't imagine that will hurt the paint)

Re: Removing side molding and Trans Am badges

Thanks for all the replies. I'm definitely going to be doing this. I've hated the side moldings since I bought the car, but have always been afraid to remove them. Not anymore.

Thanks,

Steve.

It's nice when you wash your car now too, nothing in your way.
