Removing front plate mount on Firebird?
Removing front plate mount on Firebird?
Does anyone know how to remove a front plate mount on a 97 Firebird? Well there seems to be a rivet on the very bottom of the mount holding the bracket to the bottom of the nose. Anyone know to remove this thing?
Re: Removing front plate mount on Firebird?
I had to install the stock front plate mount on my Formula when I moved from CA to NJ. It was the "factory" piece, because it was in the trunk of the car when I bought it new. It came with 3 screws that went directly through the rubber bumper cover (damn.... I still cringe when I remember drilling those holes!!!). Two holes/screws were in the middle of the flat part, one hole/screw was in a tab at the bottom that went up at maybe a 45deg angle into the bumper cover. No rivets on mine.
I recently removed the front plate mount, and used fairly small plastic "body plugs", painted to match the car, to fill the two holes in the 'nose'.... actually looks OK. And the bottom hole is wrapped so far under the nose that you can't see it.

I live in NJ and refused to put a front plate on my Camaros when I had them, they just ruined the look of the whole front end! I never put one on any of them, and in the 7 years I drove my fbodies, was only pulled over once, and the cop let me off with a written warning because I was honest with him and told him I thought it looked like crap.
Just don't put it on.
Re: Removing front plate mount on Firebird?
I myself am required to run a front plate on my car. Do I have on? Nope. Neither does my brother (94 Z). I've been pulled over a bunch of times and not once did the officer say anything about the front plate. My brother recieved a verbal warning
I think the cops realize that they look like sh*t on these cars and therefore don't care as much as say a sedan. That's my thought on this topic.
Yes, don't run the front plate

I was pulled over numerous times by the same cop for not having a front plate. Do I have one now? Nope. They are ****** about it around here, but theres no way ones going back on. It ruins the look.
