Removing the cloth part of the door panels?
Removing the cloth part of the door panels?
Does anyone know how to remove the cloth (or leather if you have leather) part on Camaro door panels??? I'm and installing black and red leather and i'm going to be putting red leather where my tan cloth part is now. My problem is I have no idea how to get them off so I can put the leather on

Ok but what about step by stp instructions for the auto illiterate? I dont know how to remove the door panel and thats his first step. Anyone buy the RK Sport leather kit? Because it comes with door panels, which I would assume come with instructions. Anyone have a set of those instructions?
Also where is a good place to find vinyl?

The door panel is held on by a bunch of plastic clips that slide into the door. If you run your finger inside the panel on the bottom side you can feel the clips that you have to get out. To do that just pry the panel up by hand. That should get it out. Once you get all the clips out, lift the panel up to get it off.
first thing you do is remove all the screws in the door, then there are the clips. The door will lift up off of them it's pretty easy. Just make sure you get all the screws some are hiddin pretty good. Anyway, If I can do it anyone can.
Just open the yellow pages and look under "fabrics" they should have any type of vinyl you're looking for....you could also look under "auto upholstery" and ask them to sell you some vinyl. The stuff is cheap...like $4.00 a yard...shoot...even Walmart has vinyl. As for reattaching the cardboard panel back onto the door.....you can just use a hot glue gun over the tabs that you ground off. In my case I just ripped out the panel and trimmed the tabs with a razor. I made new panels from thin particle board and hot glued the panel back on. I did this to cover up the hole in the door after the power window conversion.

Yea, just be careful about how you take the door panel off. I put another driver door on last year and did'nt pry the panel off right, making the white tabs break off the panel and stay on the door. Use a butterknife or sum to keep those clips onto the panel when removing it. I'm doing my interior in my 86 Z-28 now (the 2000 will have to wait till spring) and I'm finished with everything else except the seats and the door panels. I need to know how to make a two-tone vinyl pattern on em. I bought my vinyl from Hancock fabrics for $6 for 3 yards!!! and it's also going on the rear hatch carpet too (all the way down). I just posted pics of my install so far, they're on page 3 of the 86 Z-28 page.

Let me know what you guys think so far.
Also anybody know how do you make a raised symbol under the vinyl fabric. Like a raised bowtie symbol (for the door panels?

Or how do you make the emblem area lower? Are we talking about removing the whole door panel or just the cloth part as I am still kinda unsure about this whole thing.
