Re: Recalibrating Gauges

You can compare the coolant temp, RPM, MPH and volts to the readings from the PCM (use a scanner), to get the correct readings.

For the fuel gauge, fill it up and make sure the needle is above the "F" if that's the way yours used to be. For oil pressure, put a mechanical gauge on it (port above the oil filter) to get the correct reading.

The only weak point in the above is the volt meter. The PCM "system voltage" and the volt meter reading seldom agree, possibly because they are picking up the voltage from different points. You could also check system voltage at the alternator.

Re: Recalibrating Gauges

There is no "check gauges" for low fuel. Normal for the gas gauge to show "1/2" with only about 5 gallons left, and "1/4" with only 1 to 1.5 gallons left.

For the speedo, take it out on a freeway with mile markers. Hold it at a constant 60mph, and time 1 mile with a stopwatch. If it isn't 60-seconds, the speedo is off. Calculate the required correction from the actual stopwatch reading.

Re: Recalibrating Gauges

Here is how I fixed my MPH and RPM needles. Put your key in and turn it half way on (to where your needles jump up into "ready" position). Your RPM needle should be on the 0. Since the guage overlay doesn't have a "0" mph, (mine starts at 5), I just estimated where the 0 would be and put the needle there.

Re: Recalibrating Gauges

I think that the 2000 and later F-bods came with the low gas warning light. Before that....you just have to guess....anyone wanna confirm this?
