Racing stripes... Decals or paint

My friend wants to put the classic racing stripes on his 2000 Z.

what should he go with decals or paint?
He has T's so do any of you guys have pics of stripe on your cars? Do they go on the rear hatch ?

Thanks for your help with this!!!!!

Paint is kinda like a tattoo, very hard to remove.

Decal is the way to go. I highly recommend 3rdgendecals.com

I agree, paint is to perminent...

I definetly like the looks of the paint better, thats no question...

But if he ever gets sick of it, then hes in trouble...

decals are my pick...

I agree, I went through Jay @ 3rdgendecals.com and was very pleased. I told him what I wanted and he banged it out in no time.

Although when I do the complete color change I am going to have the same stripes painted on, but decals are great.

If your set on the stripes, then I recommend painting them on. I had the Heritage stripes (red) painted on my black 92Z, and they look like they want to jump off the paint, as compared to the dull stock factory decals.

They have lost their true "meaning", but not every '69 Z/28 that came with racing stripes was the "fastest" '69 out there, cause no different than now, I'm sure guys back then could have said "heck, that car is still stock.........I can smoke that guy and I don't even have stripes??" --- so I don't think it's a big deal putting stripes on a "stock" Z28. I've even seen V6 cars with stripes, so really who cares?! I'm planning on getting stripes for my car in the spring, and I'm probably going for decals vs. painted on stripes just in case I decide I don't like them (unlikely) and just because my conscience wouldn't let me paint a brand new (or nearly new) car!! Also, it may be different where you live, but around here, I haven't seen a car like mine with stripes (except a couple 35th collector's editions), so my car isn't gonna look like every other Z28 around --- it's actually going to be set apart from every Z28 around. AND, while it's still stock right now, the "mod bug" has hit me, and I'm already starting with 3.73's this year, so it won't be stock much longer!!!

Painted stripes look a lot better and are easier to come out better....I put a set of stripes on my old 6 cylinder camaro, they were decals....it took FOREVER and despite all of the time I spent on it they still had bubbles and such in them....since the decals are so huge the air bubbles are hard to get out....the stripes came out really good though, couldn't realy see the bubbles unless you were looking for them....if you do the decals it might almost be worth paying someone else to do them because like I said it is very time consuming....if I were to put stripes on my Z, which I doubt that I ever will, I would get them painted on...most of the time if you want to do racing stripes it is not an impulse thing so the whole permanent paint versus decal shouldn't be a huge factor....

There are pictures of my car (white with black stripes) from SLP Customer Appreciation Day on this website. The stripes on my car are decals. Yes it does extend onto the rear hatch, both on top of and underneath the spoiler. It does not have a roof section since the roof is black. The stripes on my car are from RK Sport.

I like the stripes on your car ^^^^^^^^^^, but you've got one of the longest signatures I think I've ever seen!!! (blows the 5-line sig rule right outta the water!). But yeah, the stripes look good!

Is my sig too long...? Sorry, I run at fairly high resolutions (1600x1200 and higher), so I don't really notice it... I'll trim it down for you guys!
