Question Quick wheel question

Okay I just bought some 17 inch SS rims and was wondering if I am jumping from my stock 16 inch wheels, if I will incur any problems with them in terms of rubbing or hitting my wheel well? I did a search and the questions were left unanswered. Is the spacing and everything the same on a v6 as in a SS? Thanks if anybody can answer em. The person who put them on left the orginal tires that came with them stock. Forgot the size

The first question is whether everything will fit in the wheel wells with no rubbing. Assuming they still have the 275/40-17 tires that came on the SS, they will lfit fine. Probably even go up to 285/40 with no problems. If they fit on the SS, they will fit fine on your car.... there are no dimensional differences between the V6, Z28, SS.

Second question is what they will do to your speedomter/odometer. I don't know what the stock tire diameter is on a V6, but the 275/40-17's are a 25.65" outside diameter. If your stock speedo calibration is based on some other tire diameter, you might have a small speedo/odo error.

What size tires came stock on your V6?

That's correct. I switched from 16" to 17" on my TA and the diameter is the same.

How off will my speedo be? I am driving to Houston to trade mine for them. I don't want to be driving back and go over the speed limit. Out state troopers are real tight on the speed limit. Thanks!!!

235/55s should be close to 245/50s

If not the same, then you'd only be off by NO MORE than 5 mph at say 75 (you'd actually be going 80)

That's not the mathematical answer, but I know as a fact it won't be anymore than that. I drove on different sized tires all the time when I had my 88 Camaro, and even with tires a couple inches bigger in diameter, the speed wouldn't be off by more than 15 around there.

Stock Z28 w/ Z-rate tires: 245/50-16 = 25.65"
Stock SS: 275/40-17 = 25.66"
Upgrade to 315/35-17 = 25.68"

V6???: 235/55-16 = 26.18"

Putting the 275/40-17 on your V6 will cause the speedo and the odometer to read about 2% higher than actual. At a true 60mph, your speedo will read 61.2mph. When you drive your car 1,000 miles, the odometer will read 1,020 miles.

A 255/50-16 is "oversize" compared to the stock Z28 tire = 26.04"
A 285/40-17 is "oversize" compared to the stock SS tire = 25.98"

Putting either of the above on a stock Z28 that came with 245/50's will cause the speedo to read about 59mph at a true 60mph.

No big deal on any of these numbers. Not worth worrying about.
