Re: Powdercoated rims"PICs"

Re: Powdercoated rims"PICs"

Has anybody tried the powder coating gun from Sears? I believe it's 110v and don't need a compressor(even though I have one). It's about $150 and you can bake it in an oven afterwords. Was seriously considering it to do small stuff but could probably do rims if you can fit it in an oven.

For those who are considering powdercoating aluminum wheels, it may not be a good idea

Re: Powdercoated rims"PICs"

well i can tell you one thing that most aftermarket wheels are powdercoated not painted anyhow, so that story is bogus. how hot do you hostly think wheels get from a road course especially fonts with a big brake kit around 600 degrees at least powdercoating is not done that hot anyhow i think its between 350-450. But anyhow these are the 2nd set of rims powdercoated and no problems with the first ones.
Here are the pics

Re: Powdercoated rims"PICs"

any just for my 2 cents my rims were outgassed for about 5 hours then powdercoated. You just need to go to someone who knows where there doing hence a business thats been around and specializes

A secondary theory is that moisture or outgassing can not escape during the powder coat process or during subsequent track heat cycles and expansion of these "sealed" gasses or moisture cracks the wheel.

Re: Powdercoated rims"PICs"

Looks real good with them powder coated black...Much better looking than the chrome. Your car looks real sweet, I love the paint color and the rims go with it real nice
