Post subject: Dupli-Color Scratch Fix 2-in-1 touchup

Has anyone actually used this product? It's on tv being advertised every so often and has me curious.

I would NEVER buy touch up paint unless you car is less than a year old since touch up paint is NOT always exact, nor at times ever close since the sun fades paint.

Buying a touch up paint (Medium Quasar Blue metallic WA 9544) for a 1992 Camaro does NOT mean it will match exactly.

I am not interested in buying this but merely curious if anyone else has? It would be nice if you could buy an empty one and be able to fill it with the correct match (ie. touch up paint from your bodyshop who recently painted your car).

i bought some, but i used it on the inside of my spoiler because it was white on my black car (probably from the crappy paint over at slp)...anywhere you would use touch up paint where you can tell if the color matches exactly probably wont look good even with an exact touch up color

How does ball point pen work? in comparison to using the normal technique (tiny brush)

I used it on my T/A and im pretty happy with the results. Its hard to get the ball point tip flowing but once you do then it works ok for small chips.

On the commercial it seems to show it flows a BEAD of paint as you roll it across the surface. And then I would assume you use the brush to flatten the BEAD out? I would think that if you BEADING a long line of it that you would then get the touchup paint on the OUTSIDE of the filling area when you go to smooth it flat?

Any way of opening it up and reusing it? (Cleaning and refilling it up)

When I used the paint I let the paint bubble up a little over the scratched area. Don't try to smooth it out immediately, leave it bubbled up a tiny bit. When it dries, you'll notice that the paint is not as bubbled up as before, and the paint will sit flush to the surface.

WOW, really?? That's a great TIP!

Does it come out as large a bead as on TV?

Yeah just like was said above. Let the paint kinda flow out and fill in the chipped area. To me the brush was totally useless.

Sorry I've never seen the commerical for this stuff, I happened to see it at my local auto parts store, so I gave it a whirl. The bead wasn't TOTALLY overflowing or anything.....just a bit over the scratches. Just try it out over a scratch/rock chip that is out of plain view at first.

One last tip, if you buy the 2-in-1 with the pen tip instead of the brush, be sure to unscrew the cap of the bottle and put the pen tip under running water, and then store the bottle upright, to ensure that excess paint does not dry-up and clog the pen tip the next time you want to use it. *Ask me how I know*

I'd suggest just buying a new little tube of paint once you run out. I don't think Duplicolor makes a large bottle to refill the little ones.
