My vote is the SS hood. The cowl hoods just don't look quite right with these cars (IMO). It looks like the person was trying too hard to make the car look mean and it wound up looking almost goofy. The Ultra Z hood looks better, but doesn't hold a candle to the SS one.

I like the SS but the Ultra Z is a true ram air hood and I'll always take fuction over style.

imo i think the ss looks bad on the 93-97 bodys
i think a 4inch cowl would be a little to much but a 2inch cowl would look great. (i hope u plan of getting a body kit if u get the cowl or ultra hood)

NO, in the 93-97 style setup, the hood can also be true ram air. You can get the setup where the airbox sits back on top of the motor. This is a COMPLETELY different ram air setup from the newer model camaros. The ultraZ would't be ram air unless you switched to the newer style airbox. Either way...they can BOTH be true ram air, but you'd have to change the airbox setup either way.

That being said...I vote for the SS hood as well.

well, here is what i'm doing. I'm planning on breaking into the 11's this summer with my new setup, and when i do i want to reward my accomplishment with a mean *** camaro look, thats in your face and says something like "i'm bad"

I have the 17x11 zr1's so my car has a nice stance as far as the meats, i am thinking wings west gfx and one of those more aggressive hoods, and a SS wing(98+ style). Prob won't drop it though, i need drag traction........... Thanks for the replies so far. My car is white and has silver zr1's if that makes a diff, and when i get the hood I'm going to lose the orange stripes and orange decals, going to go back to white with all black badges and camaro letters.

I'm not looking for the "nice" or "pretty" look, i want just plain old MEAN

I think the SS hood would look mean given the circumstances!

Ultra Z all the way. It's unique and looks tough.

Ultra Z if you want it functional...

SS if price is a factor...

They are both great looking hoods. I am not a fan of big cowl hoods on f-bodies.

so i guess it's a battle of SS vs ultra Z???

And price isn't a factor, i'll get whatever i really want . If i get a cheaper hood i'm not totally satisfied with I'll regret it later, but thats just me. I like the SS too, but the ultra Z is less common, hmm. Tough one, i still have time to decide. I'm def going to get a SS spoiler and WW GFX though with whatever hood i get.

BTW, i'm not interested in functional, I prefer CAI over ram air, for drag by time u get up to where the ram air works better then the CAI the race is over

pu12en12g, read further up.......I keep saying...both of these hoods are functional ONLY if the airbox is swapped. This is an LT1 car, not an LS1. The UltraZ setup would require him putting in the LS1 style airbox. The SS setup would be functional if he put in the GM style or sun coast creations airbox designed to sit on top of the motor and directly underneath the hood scoop. It's a totally different SS setup than the LS1 SS style setup. Either way...there will be no ram air unless an airbox is swapped out.

Lightbulb

There was one other hood that I've seen before that I thought was interesting. Kinda cool. You'll have to do some searching as it's been a month or 2 since I've seen the post...but if I can remember, it was a yellow Camaro with the 93-96 style hood...The difference was where the 'fake' inlets are...on THIS hood, they were a LOT bigger and actually ducted into the engine somehow, like ram air of sorts. It was pretty cool lookin and MEAN! See if you can find a pic of THAT one.

iamsparc:

In my opinion the SS airbox is not as functional as the direct shot from the ultra z.
