Pewter People PLEASE step in...
Pewter People PLEASE step in...
Thanks. I just bought an 02' Pewter Convertible. The color is beautiful but I need to fix a scratch on the door and just got an estimate for $800 because they claim they have to "blend" it back into the rear quarter panel since the color is difficult to match. I figure if I get the scratch fixed, I'm going to add an aftermarket front air dam (it has the stock gfx).
How well do your aftermarket parts/repairs match up with the stock color???
Am I better off going to a Chevy dealer for the paintwork??

very difficult to match.......i had an ultra Z hood put on...and the colors didnt match at all....yourealy have to look closely but in the right sun and angle you can see 2 tones......but blending is very important
Re: Pewter People PLEASE step in...
I'm not a body guy but do believe it depends on how close the scratch is to the rear quarter. If the scratch is in the middle of the door then what they'll likely do is blend it in with the door for the color but then clear then entire door. If the scratch is near the edge of the door/rear quarter then they'll likely need to blend over the area and into the rear quarter which means they'll end up clearing both the door and rear panel.
On the bright side, they already have a positive in my book by even recognizing the need to blend! That most likely means they want to do this job and do it right. A cheap job that some insurance job might do for you they wouldn't even care and just paint the panel with the scratch but then you won't be happy because the paint will likely not match and there would be a definitive line (door vs rear quarter) and you would not be happy at all!

Re: Pewter People PLEASE step in...
Thanks for the replies. I guess this is a problem with this color. I'm thinking "sticker" time right now... maybe a 35th anniversary or something. As for the aftermarket front air dam, maybe I'll wait a little while on getting that painted.
Offhand, does anyone know if the Wings West front air dam for a 93-96 Camaro will work on an 02' front end? I saw one on your site, Brent... it was a red Camaro. I have that air dam lying around in the garage and thought I could go that route eventually.
