Arrow People with painted interiors come in here...

Alright im just wondering how the interior turned out after yall painted it. Im planing on paint my whole interior black b/c there are some worn plstic peices and everything and it looks kind of bad. Right now its that dark-grayish color which i hate and i wanted it to be black. Now i want it it to still look kind of stock, i dont want it too flashy or anything and i was just wondering how yalls came out and how hard it was to get it to look good. And if any of yall have and suggestions for me while im doing this just tell me b/c ill take any help. Thanks.

And if anyone has any pics id love to see them...

Re: People with painted interiors come in here...

I went through and have painted every panel in my car except the trim around the hatch glass and the kick panels (just haven't gotten to the kick panels, probably won't touch the hatch glass since it's not too noticeable); painted most of it all black except for red accents. I'd recommend using a satin or flat black paint, personally I used Krylon Fusion, which so far has turned out perfectly. Main thing tho is if you want strength and durability, you need some clear coat too which is going to make it shiny; but personally I like it because it makes it look like it just got a good thing of some sort of armorall product applied to it. If you do clearcoat it, use the automotive DupliColor clear coat, it seems to work best. Anyway, pics are here:

It took me a pretty long time but thats because I sanded some stuff till it was smooth. It looks pretty good, but I have a lot of clear on my parts and it leaves finger prints everywhere.

do you just use normal car paint from the exterior body and it works on the interior?

meissenation:

I'm painting some interior peices with Krylon fusion gloss white soon and was wondering if you actually used the clearcoat after painting with the fusion on the plastic peices, Im not doing vinyl. I am wondering if the gloss white will look shiny enough for me or do you think the clearcoat might help with that. Your interior looks good by the way!

No, u need something that will stick to plastic better. I've heard Krylon Fusion is very good, which u can get at Wal-Mart, Hobby Lobby, etc.

I used Fusion, followed by a regular clear coat. Got it at Checker.

I used plati-kote, and lots of patience, because I put a lot of layers. You can check out my interior on page 3, halfway down..and on page 8, I wrote down how I painted it. lates.

Is clear coat necessary after spraying with one of the fusion gloss paints. Does it add any noticeable shiny finish compared to just using the fusion or is the clear coat mainly for pretection purposes.

Re: People with painted interiors come in here...

I used plastikote and SEM myself. I'm assuming Krylon Fusion would work better than Plastikote since it liked to run on me, but they had blue metalflake from Plastikote so oh well. SEM worked good, it's more expensive than Krylon Fusion but they have more colors of gray.

PureMuscle you don't necessarily need a clear coat for it to look good. It would be great protection-wise tho, I kind of wish I had done one.

DiabloGT as far as the seats go, there's a dye for that. I don't know what it's called, but I wouldn't use paint on the seats if I were u.

Awesome, thanks. Another question: If I decided I wanted to do the fusion and clear coat in the same day, how would it be done exactly? The fusion is supposed to dry fast for paint so should I do the clear coat when the fusion is dry or wet? Thanks again.
