Post Painting Interior problems

I am in the process of taking all of the parts that i want to paint out of my car, but the panel by the door handle wont come off. I unplugged all of the wires but the door lock doesnt seem to fit through the hole to get the panel off. Should i just force it and hope it doesn't break or should i cut off a piece of plastic on the back of the panel so the lock will have a bigger area to fit through? Thanks

Thumbs up

The lock has to come off. Just grab it by the little lip that sticks out, keep one hand on the small metal rod that it is connected to, and pull it towards you. It should pop right off.
