Post Need some advise on painting charges.

Getting the following painted:

Rear spoiler - it's the sport wing as found on RKSport.com
Roof - B post change from black to red, top to be re-painted black (Clear coat is chipping off)
Hood - 3" Cowl Hood to be painted red

How much would you expect to give for the above?? I've been quoted a price from a friend for $400 in materials alone:
$200 - red paint & reducer
$125 - black & clear coat
$75 - tape, paper, prep, sanding ect.

That doesn't include the donation I'll have to give for his services. To me, it seems a bit high, but I've never had to have any painting done.

What do you guys think??

That sounds bout right. It really all depends on the type of quality you want. Good paint and clear doesnt come cheap! For that price he's probably using PPG or Dupont. Of course most ppl get ripped on paint jobs, I know this cuz my dad owns a body shop, but your looking at $700-$800 for a good job. Not some ma and pop shop! I used to do estimates for my dad so I kinda know what it cost for labor and materials. I would just repaint the whole damn thing for $1500-2000 grand and be done with it. Color matching red is no fun, especially if your car is sun faded. Of course this is Dallas prices, so I'm not sure bout PA.

I just did my rear bumper & rocker panel ground effects a month ago, for the same reason (faded chaulking clearcoat). I wanted to save some money, so I did all prep & priming (the grunt work). The shop I go to uses Sikkens paints, so I picked up the Color Build Primer System with all the goodies needed as addatives, Elast-O-Actiff, Hardener, Primer activator, and spent 225.00. This is only the stuff for priming. I Did all the sanding, priming, then turned it over to the pros for base & clear coat. With what they did, and what I spent for prep materials I come out just under 500.00. Results are great. Matt

Ok guys, thanks. I just wanted to make sure my bud wasn't too far off base here. I'd love to get the whole thing done now, but I got something planned for next spring so that's when I'll get the rest of the vehicle done. Thanks again for your input.
