Painting the headlight surrounds ?

I don't know the exact name for it. Right they are the same color as the car. And I want to paint them gloss black.

My question is do i need to sand the plastic down or something?

Ive never done this before so some tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Another name is Headlight buckets. Heres a pic of mine.

What I did first.I think all I used was 2,000 grit paper.And painted a flat black .

Heres a finish pic .And so far I happy with it.

That looks real nice. What about the outside part of the bucket?

Well you can paint them. But for now. I decided not to paint mine. Just something a little different.

I wouldn't do flat black personally, because after some exposure to the sun it looks gray. If you do go with flat black, get a matte clear coat to protect it. Hell, clear coat it either way, because otherwise the rattle can black will turn to crap in no time.

i personally think satin black looks better.. i think the gloss black on the plastic buckets looks sorta cheesy, but to each their own... hit us with some pics when you get done!
