Painting Calipers Question

I want to paint my stock 96 SS calipers red.. what kind of paint is the best for this? Never done this before.. so would just some spray paint work? Or do I need some speacial kind? Also.. whats the best way to go about doing it? Can I just unbolt the caliper and leave the brake line connected to paint it? (if i'm using spray paint, I'd carefully do it while the caliper is in a plastic bag right? as to not get any overspray anywhere else)

I think eventualy I'm going to buy some corvette calipers and powdercoat them so I'm not looking for the longest lasting way of doing this.. just something that will get me a nice job. Thanks

Trevor

What you need to get:

Duplicolor Clear Adhesive enamel
Duplicolor base coat paint (whatever color you want them to be)
Duplicolor clear coat enamel

You can find these at most auto parts stores.

In my case I used the following paints:

Duplicolor Clear Adhesive enamel
Duplicolor Ford Red enamel
Duplicolor Gloss Black enamel
Duplicolor clear coat enamel

The entire project took us around nine hours to complete of which easily over half of that time was spent prepping the calipers (ie. cleaning/smoothing out the seams). We then layed down three coats of clear adhesive enamel (primer) followed by three coats of red for the calipers and three coats of black for the brackets. Next we applied the decals to the two front calipers and then put down three coats of clear coat on top of that. Once everything was dry we mounted the brakes and tires and I let the car sit overnight to dry good. They have all held up very well over several months now and are easy to keep clean (especially since the car is mostly a garage queen).

Here are some pics of the finished product.
