You could probably find a cheaper place, but it will suck major booty.

You get what you pay for definitely applies here. When you go to the cheap places, (Macco, Earl Scheib, Miracle), they don't take off the moldings, paint in the jambs, or mask the car off worth a damn. That and your trying to paint it black and that is a really bad color to get flat, let alone at a discount shop.

If I were you I would ask around and see if anyone knows of somebody who does paint on the side. $2,000 is still pretty cheap for a complete color change. At my shop your looking at least $6000 to do what you want. Most good shops will give you a lifetime warranty, so that is why your price is so high. There is a lot of proper prep work involved when doing it right. Where do you live?

Of all the things to go cheap on paint is NOT one of them. Think about the first thing you see when you look at a car.

So if money is an issue just wait you and your wallet will thank you

Paint the car yourself if you have a garage or the weather is warm where you are at. Paint guns will run you about $300 bucks. Paint will run you about $1000 bucks for the primer, base, clear, all the hardeners and reducers. Then you will need a good respirator, goggles, paint suite, gloves, and some cheap walmart fans. Then the booth. Make a makeshift one out of visqueen and 2x4's.

You will be amazed at how well the paint job will turn out with as long as you prep your car very well.

PLEASE post on the correct forum. Questions about painting your car do not belong on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". Moving to "Appearance".....

Re: paint job, help please!

there was an article in HOTROD a few years back??? about having a car painted on a budget.

If you do take it to Maaco, Earl Schribe's make sure you take the car apart...all molding, trim, lights, handles, weather stripping etc. If memory serves me right they have different packages...
